Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may...

Right now I'm craving wedges and blazers... So I thought I'd make a nice little Polyvore set including some of the things I would buy if I was rich. :)
WWS Wedge booties, Proenza Schouler blazer, Topshop vest, DKNY skinny jeans, Chanel clutch, Lavin necklace, Chanel Trapeze nail polish

Oh and this coat from the On Aura Tout Vu Spring 2010 Haute Couture collection! :D
That is all :)

dany atrache: "the theme is tattoos"

Instead of going to bed, naturally, I sat up tonight watching Midnite Haute on FashionTV. A lot of the Spring couture shows seem to be repetitive, with themes running so strongly through collections that some pieces look almost the same as the ones before (George Chakra, sadly, being one of them; his collection was really disappointing…*)

One of the collections that struck me as original and very beautiful was Dany Atrache's. There was a lot of frill, lace, and sequins, which to me are always a big yes's anyway, and of course the pastels and nude colours with black... But there were some splashes of colour, delicate blues, pinks and greens brought vibrancy to the mostly cream, gold and silver theme, which really seemed to pull the pieces together and make the collection as a whole really beautiful. I loved the use of sheer paneling amidst the tattoo inspired designs, which somehow managed to remain demure.

I really love this jumpsuit, with the ravishing ruffled sleeves and sheer body.

The intricate detailing on some of the dresses was just amazing; it's hard to imagine handcrafting such fine work... Just thinking about all the tiny stitches for each little sequin is exhausting.

* Saying that, I would treasure any piece of couture forever if I had one; being in the poorhouse like I am – one cannot afford to be picky :(

you think you're peter pan, michael, but you're not

I don't know if it's because I'm a completely hopeless romantic, but I found Elie Saab's ethereal Spring Couture 2010 runway devastatingly beautiful. I love the delicate designs, the fairy-princess sway of the enormous skirts of half the dresses, the pastel colours, and Karlie Kloss.

I love the way it seems almost as though a watercolour artist was set loose on the precious fabrics, and the way you can almost hear the swish of the dresses brushing against skin as the models walk, even as the moments are frozen by camera. I love the glistening runway, reflecting the light like water and rippling in the same fashion, as though to immortalise the models and cast them in a holy glow.

I know style.com think it's "a bit too fantasy-prom" but the extravagance of it all makes me feel all excitable, like when I was a little girl oggling over immensely flowery Laura Ashley dresses; I just want to feel the fabric slip through my fingers and wear it even in the most inappropriate weather until I move onto the next coveted clothing item.

all that glitters is not gold.

Karl Lagerfield does silver for Chanel Couture Spring 2010! And I am in love!!!

It's like romanticism meets robots who wear chiffon and shimmery silver tights. They somehow counter the space-age harshness of the chunky silver boots and square-shouldered tailoring with soft folds of satin, and the gowns seem to just float around the models, draping luxuriously over their shoulders. I want it all!

a few of my favourite things.

Now that I'm free from English coursework for say... a week? until I have to start my next piece, I thought I'd invest some real time into looking at the Pre-Fall 2010 Collections that I haven't had much time to stare at wistfully yet.
One day, when I am rich and powerful, I will own some amazing pieces hot off the catwalk and God will see that it is good.
A few of my favourite pieces from pre-fall so far:

L-R: Proenza Schouler, Valentino, Giambattista Valli, Nina Ricci, Nina Ricci, Burberry Prorsum

I really love the Burberry Prorsum Belt, they've used it in most of the collection images and it just seems to bring all the outfits together nicely. I also really love the Proenza Schouler shorts and boots, for the same reason. I love loads of other pieces but at the moment these are the ones standing out to me. I also really love like all of the Balenciaga tights (yay two-toned!)

and...

I want a paperclip head like on the Giles runway :D

how do you like my ufo?

Seriously too tired to even function.
Here's a nice little anecdote from The Philosophy of Andy Warhol by Andy Warhol (duh) for you:
"People's fantasies are what give them problems. If you didn't have fantasies you wouldn't have problems because you'd just take whatever was there. But then you wouldn't have romance, because romance is finding your fantasy in people who don't have it."
